I just finished Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. What a charming book! It was laugh out loud funny at moments- especially describing life as a private school parent, the overall vibe of Seattle and the inner workings of Microsoft. But it was also poignant. The book is about the disappearance of a Seattle mother who is also a retired architect/genius. The plot involves corporate espionage, Antarctica, prospective parent cocktail parties and is told from the point of view of Bernadette’s daughter who uses emails, texts, letters and news articles to piece together what happened to her mother. I strongly recommend you read it- particularly if you are like me and need to avoid really dark books during the winter months. Where’d you Go Bernadette is anything but dark.
